The History of Everyday Life Database serves to the scholars, students and all the ones, who would like to know more about the history of our ancestors. It contains over several hundreds of sorted and systemized sources of personal nature. The database is searchable and contains numerous registers. The sources are available online or it the building of the Institute of History of the Czech Academy of Sciences. The History of Everyday Life Database is one of the outcomes of an international research project involving the Institut für Wirtschafts- u. Sozialgeschichte der Universität Wien and the Institute of History of the Czech Academy of Sciences. One of the objectives of this project is to create a documentary collection of old memories, family chronicles, diaries and other biographical recollections. The base of the collection are the preserved old family memoires and archived materials, but also many contributions written by their authors in a recent time. The collection was done in the first half of the 1990s.

Descriptions of life in the family and wider surroundings, description of items, acts, habits and everything we think should not be forgotten – all this can become a source of learning, a source of undiscovered knowledge, a stone in the mosaic of “everyday” history. Narratives can become a rare memory, fascinating reading not just for family members but also for other unknown readers. The database should serve as a valuable source of information without which it would often not be possible to grasp the deeper context of “great” history.
